Tretorn, the historical Swedish sportsbrand, sneaker pioneers right after Keds and one of the first rubber tennis ball manufacturers in 1902, will present the new collection at Revolver SS20. Two of the many news stand out above the rest.
The renown OG Tretorn Olympic, known as “Mexico 68” as the official Swedish Olympic Team sneaker, will return in a retro version for summer 2020 Olympic Games in Japan. The Olympics were an updated version of the Swedish staple Nylite, on feet of all the Scandinavian yellow and blue athletes. In 2020 the brand will be celebrating their 120th Anniversary as sneaker manufacturer, being one of the oldest in the game. There is no better occasion to launch a tribute to the icon with an Eco re-twist entwining the old-school vibes of the shoe.
The upper is a high-end Eco LITE (Low Impact on The Environment) certified Leather from TanTec using renewable green energy. The sole has been updated with a new cushioning containing 50% natural rubber from small farms, giving the sneaker an enhanced comfort. The insole is created with recycled construction for better fit and longevity.
The design elements are inspired from the original ones with stitched gullwing and perforated holes. The shoelaces come in six different colours matching the range of colours in the Olympic games as a tribute to the original use of the sneaker.
Tretorn and Nigel Cabourn work together on a collection called “SAREK”, one of Europe´s last true wilderness areas. The inspiration is based on a shared ethos and passion for creating garments that are produced to the highest quality; are functional in detail, timeless in design and show respect to the natural environment. The collabo is a three-piece collection consisting of a jacket, a bag and a pair of sneakers. All products in the collection are made in Organic or recycled Ventile and are part of the Tretorn Eco Essentials initiative.
“With the Tretorn X Nigel Cabourn SAREK collaboration we aim to engage the modern conscious consumer by combining our heritage with environmental consciousness, fuse it with the adventurous spirit of outdoor enthusiasts and make it ready for everyday life.”
The collection is built on the idea of creating a 70’s top to toe hiking style, based on three selected heritage pieces from the archive and mix this with a contemporary interpretation of life in SAREK.
Tretorn x Nigel Cabourn – SAREK Jacket
The Sarek Mountain jacket is based on design inspiration from a 70’s style mountain expedition jacket. It is made in 100% organic Ventile of highest quality. Which gives the jacket a airy feel and makes it as light and comfortable as wearing a cotton shirt. The high quality Ventile has a extreme water repellent functionality and breathability. It also has a natural body heat temperature control, makes the jacket cold when body is warm and warm when body is cold. It is made in a 70’s retro style with large hood, four big front pockets with rubberized buttons and exclusive trims.
Tretorn x Nigel Cabourn – SAREK Sneaker
The reconstructed Sarek sneaker is a fusion of the two iconic Tretorn style sneakers from the 60’s, Racket and Nylite. Brought back together by Nigel Cabourn with a new chunky design and exclusive trims. The sneaker is handmade in high quality Ventile DRY 400 RCO (a very exclusive oxford cotton) and built with a traditional 60’s technique of vulcanized outsole with 30% natural rubber combining the two worlds of Tretorn and Nigel Cabourn. The left shoe has a red color insock and the right shoe has a green color insock to help Nigel separate left from right in his hectic lifestyle.
Tretorn x Nigel Cabourn – SAREK Rucksack
The Sarek ruck sack has a design inspired from the 70’s vintage hiking rucksacks. It is made in a very exclusive Organic Ventile Canvas 400 making the backpack highly durable, water repellant and breathable. It will be suitable for shorter hikes as well as daily urban commuting. It has multiple clever pockets to stash your gear, no matter if it’s a 15” laptop or portable hiking stove. The rucksack has bottom comportment with zipper and drainage holes perfectly suitable for storing dirty hiking shoes or sneakers after a muddy hike or rainy day downtown. The design has the iconic functionality of a Tretorn product fused with characteristic esthetics of The Nigel Cabourn brand.
