Meet Bruce Pask, Men’s Fashion Director of Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, and a member of the Revolver Family of buyers.
After a long run as fashion director at American fashion publications GQ and T: The New York Times’ Style Magazine, Bruce Pask left editorial for retail in the role of Men’s Fashion Director at New York department store Bergdorf Goodman. This past season saw the inclusion of the Fashion Director duties for another iconic American department store – Neiman Marcus.
We sat down with Bruce for a chat about the coming season and his Copenhagen favorites.
As Men’s Fashion Director of both Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus you must have an extremely packed schedule during the buying season, looking through hundreds of lookbooks, tradeshows, and menswear brands. Could you tell us a bit about what is on your radar for the next season, in regards to trends, brands, and fashion weeks?
The Fall season is certainly one that I really love scouting, with its rich colors and textures, beautiful outerwear, great knitwear. It’s my favorite season. I’m always on the hunt for anything interesting, anything compelling for our very discerning customer.
I start in London for their fashion week, then head to Pitti Uomo in Florence, and fashion weeks in Milan, Paris, and New York. Each fair and city has a very distinctive point of view and offering which I really find inspiring.
We’ve just started market so I am on the lookout for developing trends but I am interested very much in the shift in proportion we are seeing … Fuller trousers, oversized shirts and coats. We’ve been in a very trim, cropped, and fitted world for many years now and the focus is starting to shift.
I have really enjoyed attending Revolver … It’s a very well curated, concise show with brands that are very relevant to our very luxe and fashion minded customer. It’s certainly one of my favorite shows in one of my most favorite cities in the world.
I was lucky to be able to visit Noma which was certainly unforgettable, but for more accessible, but no less thoughtful, meals I love 108 which is an offshoot of Noma. I also can’t miss the tartare at Manfred’s and a tasting menu dinner at Relae, another one of my favorites. I love the local brewery Mikkeller and their beer bars. They’re all over the city and each one is so cozy and beautifully designed. I can also never get over how quiet and peaceful they are compared to our raucous spots in the States.
I also love Ved Stranden 10, a canal-side wine bar in one of the loveliest spots in the city. When in town I always ride a bike wherever I go … It’s one of my favorite things about the city and I’m very curious to see how it goes in January in possible snow!
The city is also very culturally rich, with a lovely Museum of Art and Design filled with incredible pieces from very renowned local designers. The Finn Juhl house, a bit out of town, is a must visit. And the lovely art museum Louisiana, which is one of the most extraordinary spots in the world to see sculpture and two dimensional art. Unforgettable! And a visit to the city wouldn’t be complete without a bike ride through Christiania, one of the most fascinating, otherworldly spots. Clearly, I love Copenhagen!
When you’re at Revolver, do you have any favorite exhibitors and friends you always make sure to stop by?
Of course! Magnus Carstensen, who first introduced me to Revolver, is one of my first to see and has become a good friend. I’m a big fan of the shoe company Grenson which he represents and I love his own relatively new collection called Magnafied, great utilitarian dead stock pieces customized with his own clever patches. I’m really excited to see the shop that he just opened this month.
I am also a big fan of Andersen-Andersen sweaters, and they also have a very charming shop in town that I don’t miss. I found the brand SneakerLab, cleaning kits for sneakers, at the show a few seasons and I really love their products. I definitely make my rounds at the shows to see everyone and really enjoy catching up with all the exhibitors and brands.
Thank you Bruce – We’re looking so much forward to seeing you at Revolver!
