The celebration of Copenhagen nightlife, Distortion kicks off in a couple of weeks with streetparties and a massive finale party at Refshaleøen. The massive streetparties are without a doubt Distortion’s iconic trademark. On the opening day in 2016, the city neighborhood of Nørrebro were engulfed by countless soundsystems, attracting more than 100.000 party people per day, and completely shutting down the traffic. On the second day, Distortion moves along to the hood of Vesterbro repeating the same crazy drill.
The legendary street parties have been described as an unusually diverse party-magnet attracting just about everyone; hippies, hipsters, queers, families with kids, techno enthusiasts, general culture-lovers, you name it! The streets of Copenhagen are literally jam-packed, and transformed by the thousands of guests dancing and loving life and music together.
Distortion Ø, which started as a smaller event supporting the streetparties is now the main event of the Distortion week. The beast that is Distortion morphes again on the 3rd and 4th days of the festival, becoming an intense, centralized party-utopia on the festival site Distortion Ø. It all goes down at the labyrinth-like festival site by the Copenhagen harbour where guests lose themselves in pure musical bliss.
The area is a mix of container stages, green fields, small forests, warehouses and small alleys, with many stages, all surrounded by the beautiful Copenhagen skyline. Ø means island – the area is called Refshaleøen. The site is brimming with outdoor dance floors, and thoroughly decked out with sound and light installations, creating Scandinavia’s biggest electronic music event.
